Laboratory Equipment

Sample Digestion & Kjeldahl Analysis

Equipment that digests samples in acid and measures nitrogen and protein in food, feed, grain, soil, fertiliser and plant tissue, for laboratories across Saudi Arabia.

Sample Digestion & Kjeldahl Analysis

The reference method for protein and nitrogen

Kjeldahl analysis remains one of the most trusted reference methods in agricultural and food laboratories, and the equipment on this page covers each step. Samples are digested in concentrated acid on a temperature-controlled block or heating plate, the acid fumes are collected and neutralised, and an automatic Kjeldahl analyser distils and titrates the digest to report nitrogen and crude protein. Programmable graphite and aluminium heating plates also prepare samples for metal analysis. Feed mills, food control laboratories, grain quality laboratories, soil and fertiliser laboratories and universities in Saudi Arabia rely on this equipment every day. EnmaTech supplies, installs and supports it, and helps plan complete digestion areas.

Protein in food and feed

Multiplying Kjeldahl nitrogen by a protein factor gives crude protein, a core figure for feed formulation, food labelling and the pricing of grain and oilseed meal.

Nitrogen in soil and plants

Total nitrogen in soil and plant tissue shapes fertiliser recommendations and supports research into nitrogen use efficiency, a key factor in sustainable farming.

Preparing samples for metal analysis

Programmable heating plates digest food, plant and soil samples in acid to release metals for atomic absorption analysis, following controlled temperature profiles for repeatable results.

Safer acid fume handling

Fume collectors and neutralisation units capture and neutralise acid vapour from digestion, protecting staff, instruments and the building exhaust system.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many samples can we run at once?

The digestion block shown here takes eight tubes per run, and the analyser with a 40-position autosampler distils and titrates a full batch without supervision, which suits laboratories with heavy daily workloads.

Do we still need Kjeldahl if we already have an NIR analyser?

Yes. Kjeldahl is the reference method used to calibrate and check NIR protein predictions. Laboratories that screen routinely by NIR still run Kjeldahl on reference and control samples.

Should we choose a graphite or an aluminium heating plate?

Graphite plates resist acid corrosion and heat evenly, so they suit open-vessel acid digestion. Aluminium plates are a cost-effective choice for general heating where acid exposure is limited.
