Forestry & Tree Measurement Instruments

Field instruments that measure tree height, growth and slope, record survey routes and reveal internal decay in living trees, with no need to fell them.

Forestry & Tree Measurement Instruments

Measuring forests, parks and urban trees

Forestry instruments are the working tools of forest inventory, afforestation monitoring and tree risk assessment. Laser hypsometers give tree height and distance; increment borers and hammers take wood cores that show age and growth rate; slope goniometers record the terrain; thickness gauges measure bark and wood samples; and GPS track recorders log survey routes and plot positions. Stress-wave tomography maps decay and cavities inside standing trees without cutting them. In Saudi Arabia these tools serve forestry and environment agencies, municipalities that look after urban trees, national parks and reserves, universities and research centres, including teams working on greening programmes. EnmaTech supplies and supports forestry equipment locally and helps put together complete survey kits.

Forest inventory

Height, diameter and plot location data feed into volume and biomass estimates, so agencies can follow forest resources, carbon stocks and the progress of planting programmes.

Growth and age studies

Increment cores expose the annual rings, giving researchers tree age and growth rates that reflect climate, water supply and site management over many years.

Safer urban trees

Stress-wave tomography reveals hidden decay inside trunks, helping municipalities decide which trees along streets and in parks and schools need pruning, bracing or removal.

Afforestation and rangeland projects

GPS tracking and slope readings document planting sites and terrain, supporting the planning, reporting and long-term monitoring of greening and land restoration work, including projects linked to Vision 2030.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will stress-wave tomography harm the tree?

No, it is regarded as non-destructive. Small sensors are fixed around the trunk and light taps send sound waves through the wood. Where the waves slow down, there is decay or a cavity, and the software shows this as a cross-section image.

How can tree age be measured without cutting the tree down?

An increment borer is screwed into the trunk and draws out a thin wood core. Counting and measuring the annual rings on that core gives an estimate of age and growth rate, and the small hole is left to heal.

What makes a sensible starter kit for field surveys?

Many teams start with a laser hypsometer, an increment borer, a dial thickness gauge, a slope goniometer and a GPS track recorder, then add tomography when tree risk assessment or heritage tree management is part of the work.
